According to IZE on Jan 21st, tvN’s new drama “The Tyrant’s Chef” will commence filming on Jan 23rd.
This marks the drama’s first official shoot, focusing primarily on the female lead. With the Jan 23rd filming as a starting point, the production team plans to proceed with the filming schedule, aiming for a broadcast within the year.
When asked about the start of production, representatives of “The Tyrant’s Chef” stated “We cannot confirm this”, keeping their response reserved.
Previously, according to an OSEN report on Sep 24th, 2024, Im Yoona will appear in the new drama “The Tyrant’s Chef.” Multiple entertainment industry insiders have revealed that she has been offered the lead role as the female protagonist.
Through this, Im Yoona will be returning to dramas for the first time since the highly popular “King the Land” (2023). Having previously received praise for dramas like “Hush” and “Big Mouth” and for films like the “Confidential Assignment” series and “Exit,” her role as the title character in this drama is expected to further cement her presence among drama fans.

Notably, “The Tyrant’s Chef” is set to be directed by Jang Tae Yoo, raising expectations. Director Jang Tae Yoo is a star PD who created hit dramas like “Deep Rooted Tree” and “My Love from the Star.” He also garnered praise for other works such as “Painter of the Wind,” “Hyena,” and “Lovers of the Red Sky.”
His most recent work was “Flowers that Bloom at Night”. “Flowers that Bloom at Night” achieved a peak rating of 18.4% and was praised as the successful comeback drama for actress Lee Ha Nee after giving birth. Thus, much attention is being drawn to the potential synergy between star PD Jang Tae Yoo and box-office queen Im Yoona.
“The Tyrant’s Chef” tells the story of a chef who, at the peak of his career, time-slips to the past and encounters a king who, despite being remembered as the worst tyrant, is also known as a connoisseur of fine cuisine. The drama’s broadcast schedule is currently under discussion.
